Look inside Mars with a rotating 3D quarter cutaway. Explore representative crust, mantle and core layers informed by InSight-era research.
Remove a quarter of Mars to compare the thickness of its rocky crust, mantle and iron-rich core. Select a layer to read about its composition and the limits of the model.
Seismic measurements, gravity and rotation constrain the Martian interior. This model uses representative spherical boundaries. The deep molten layers and possible inner-core structure remain active research topics, so the core is grouped into one region.
Rock grain, metal colours and animated flow are explanatory visual treatments. They are not photographs of the interior. Layer radii use the same scale as the planet; the mantle is predominantly solid rock.
